Improve safety at 58th and Central Avenue

Improve safety at 58th and Central Avenue
The Issue
Every day, I walk through the intersection at 58th and Central Avenue in Indianapolis, Indiana, on my way to school. This journey, which should be safe and routine, is fraught with fear and anxiety due to the dangerous conditions present at this intersection. I see drivers speeding through the stop sign, putting pedestrians like me in harm's way, and making this area a spot of potential tragedy.
The intersection of 58th and Central Avenue is in dire need of safety enhancements. The stop signs currently in place are insufficient in slowing down traffic and ensuring pedestrian safety.
We urge the Indianapolis Department of Public Works to take action. Installing a well-signaled traffic light, along with clear pedestrian crosswalks, can significantly reduce the risk of accidents. Traffic calming measures such as speed humps and additional signage can reduce the amount of people running through the stop sign.
It is not just a matter of convenience, but one of safety and prevention of avoidable accidents and potential fatalities. Residents, especially schoolchildren, deserve to walk safely through their neighborhoods. By making these critical changes, we can protect our community and ensure that 58th and Central become safer for everyone.
Please sign this petition to demand immediate action towards improving the safety at 58th and Central Avenue. Your support is crucial in advocating for a safer neighborhood for all residents of Indianapolis.
Thanks, Graham Phillips
