RE Hwy 534 Roadwork I received a letter this morning from the head of operational services at MTO, letting me know that the road work, is in fact not completed, as was previously stated in a letter from MPP Vic Fedeli's office on Aug 29. This is great news. There is more to do, and this is not the final condition that the road will be in. Good morning Mark, Thank you for your email regarding the condition of Highway 534. I appreciate the opportunity to respond on behalf of the ministry. Resurfacing work on Highway 534 is not yet complete. As part of the contract, there will be a final surface applied called micro surfacing that is anticipated to begin next week and take approximately a week and a half. The commencement and completion dates are weather dependant. Surface Treatment requires hot dry weather to cure. Unfortunately, some of the surface treatment did not have sufficient time to cure prior to it being subjected to rain fall. Potholes have been addressed and will continue to be addressed by the contractor as they appear. The surface treatment application process includes applying a layer of asphalt emulsion, and the application of a cover aggregate. Following the application of cover aggregate, once the emulsifier has fully cured, the highway surface is swept to remove any remaining loose granular material. Typically sweeping is conducted one to two weeks following the application of cover aggregate. Sweeping the highway surface prematurely can negatively impact the ability of the emulsifier to properly cure which may result in a poorly performing final surface. Temporary markings have been applied and final markings will be placed approximately a week after the micro surfacing work is complete (weather depending). The ministry is working diligently to complete rehabilitation of Highway 534 and ensure that the final highway surface is high quality, resilient, and safe for the travelling public. Thank you again for bringing your concerns to our attention
