Hello Mark,

As mentioned in our previous email, the MTO has provided us with additional clarification regarding Highway 534.

The MTO determines highway classification based on the Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) volume, as well as other factors such as the highway's role within the transportation network, its function, and the level of service it provides.

Regarding your concerns about the condition of Highway 534, The MTO is committed to addressing your concerns and takes your concerns seriously. The section of Highway 534 near Barton Lake requires subsurface mitigation works to address distresses and will be included in the upcoming yearly program, once funding permits.

Ministry staff are actively collaborating with the contractor responsible for the recent construction work on Highway 534 to address concerns. The MTO is working diligently to ensure that the necessary corrective actions are taken to improve the road conditions.

For further questions, you may contact Travis Millen, Head, Operational Services at travis.millen@ontario.ca.

We appreciate the time you took to write.

Kind regards,
