Improve Safety and Accessibility: Fix Lighting and Parking at Parks Across Bonney Lake, WA

The Issue

As a member of The Peace Warrior’s Global Youth Program (GYP-2025), I am raising concerns about limited parking and poor street lighting at Bonney Lake’s parks, including Allan Yorke Park, and Viking Park.

These parks are vital spaces for youth, families, and residents, but they are becoming harder and less safe to access. Parking shortages force visitors to park far away or crowd nearby streets, making access difficult, especially for seniors, families with young children, and individuals with disabilities. Poor lighting near Viking Park and other recreation areas makes evening visits unsafe, increasing the risk of accidents and discouraging community use.

Without action, these issues will continue to affect safety and accessibility. Families may avoid parks, vulnerable residents may struggle to use them, and security risks will persist. Fixing parking and lighting will create safer, more welcoming public spaces for everyone.

Bonney Lake’s community is growing, and these spaces need to meet increasing demand. Expanding parking and installing better lighting will improve safety and accessibility now and for the future. We urge local leaders to act quickly to ensure our parks remain safe, accessible, and inviting for all.

Let’s work together to make Bonney Lake’s parks safer and easier to enjoy!
