This is a petition that will be presented to the Mayor and City Council of Travelers Rest, SC

Travelers Rest is a beautiful town full of great people both cyclists and non-cyclists. However there is growing friction between those who participate and those who don’t as to where this activity is safe on public roads. This is NOT a petition to take away the freedoms of cyclists, but one to come to a compromise that will benefit those on both sides of the issue. We have a lot of curvy backroads in TR that have many blind spots and double-yellow lines that make it illegal for motorists to pass those that cycle. These roads are dangerous for cyclists to be on as they pose collision risks, impeded traffic, as well as situations of road-rage between cyclists and motorists. 

As a fair compromise, this petition serves as a voice from the residents of TR to have the mayor and city council impose an ordinance in TR to restrict cyclist activity to:

1. Trails and paths designated for cycling
2. Public roads that have a designated bicycle lane
3. Roads that have a minimum width of 2 feet of shoulder to the right of the solid white line so that they may safely move over to allow motorists to pass
