Improve Road Safety on the A10 through Increased Surveillance and Stricter Regulations
The Issue
I am writing this with a heavy heart after My best friend and her two beloved dogs were tragically killed in a road incident on the A10. The driver, who was dangerously driving, failed to stop for police and caused an accident that took their lives. This personal loss has highlighted the urgent need for increased road safety measures along this route.
The A10 is a major artery through Edmonton, London, UK. Yet it lacks sufficient safety measures such as speed cameras which could deter reckless driving and provide crucial evidence during investigations of road incidents. We believe that installing more cameras would significantly improve safety for all users of this busy route.
Furthermore, we call for harsher penalties for those who show no remorse after causing harm through dangerous driving. In 2019 alone, there were 153 fatalities due to dangerous driving in the UK (source: Department for Transport). These deaths are not just statistics - they are friends, family members and loved ones whose lives have been cut short by irresponsible actions on our roads.
We urge local authorities to take immediate action by increasing surveillance along the A10 and reviewing sentencing guidelines for dangerous drivers showing no remorse. By doing so, we can hope to prevent further tragedies like my friend's from happening again.
In addition to these measures, we propose raising the legal driving age to 21 years old. Raising the legal driving age could potentially reduce such incidents significantly.
Please sign this petition if you believe in safer roads and justice served appropriately.
