Improve Road Safety on Darnall Road, S9.

Improve Road Safety on Darnall Road, S9.
The Issue
To Sheffield City Council & South Yorkshire Police
We, the undersigned, call for urgent action to address the serious dangers on Darnall Road, Darnall, where cars are frequently recorded driving at speeds of up to 75mph in a 30mph zone.
Local resident have raised repeated concerns, warning that it is “only a matter of time” before a fatal crash occurs if measures are not taken. These warnings must not be ignored.
Darnall Road runs directly through a residential community and serves as a main route for children and families attending nearby schools, including:
• High Hazels Academy
• Phillimore Primary School
• Oasis Academy
In addition, the road provides daily access to key community amenities such as:
• Local places of worship
• Darnal Community Park
• Shops and local businesses
• Community sports and boxing gym
The lives of children, parents, worshippers, shoppers, park users, and residents are being put at risk every single day. Speeding vehicles, reckless driving, and a lack of effective safety measures create an unacceptable danger that must be addressed immediately.
We demand:
1. The installation of average speed cameras or additional enforcement technology.
2. Traffic calming measures such as speed bumps, raised crossings, or chicanes.
3. Increased police patrols and enforcement to deter dangerous driving.
4. Safe pedestrian crossings, particularly near schools, places of worship, the park, and local shops, to protect children, families, and the wider community.
We believe no family should have to wait for a tragedy before action is taken. The Council and Police have a duty to protect the people of Darnall.
We the undersigned, call on Sheffield City Council and South Yorkshire Police to act without delay to make Darnall Road safe for everyone. The community of Darnall has been overlooked for far too long it is time for urgent action.
