The Issue

As the parent of a child attending Middleton Primary School in Nottingham, and as someone who provides before and after school care as a childminder, I am deeply concerned about the road safety situation on Harrow Road. The safety of our children, as well as the peace of mind of countless parents and caregivers, is at risk every day due to reckless driving behaviors that persist despite existing permit-only restrictions during school hours.

Daily, we witness vehicles mounting kerbs, erratic turns in the road, and an overall disregard for pedestrian safety. These actions put our children, families, and school staff in immediate danger. The current measures are clearly insufficient, as they fail to deter dangerous driving and ensure a safe journey to and from school for our young ones.

According to the Department for Transport statistics, child pedestrian casualties remain a significant concern across the UK. It's imperative that we act now to prevent any potential accidents or injuries on Harrow Road. Our children deserve a safe environment where they can walk confidently to learn and grow.

We are calling on Nottingham City Council to implement stronger traffic enforcement measures and provide additional safety aids, such as speed bumps, clearer signage, and increased surveillance. These measures have proven effective in other school districts, resulting in decreased incidents and enhanced safety around schools.

By signing this petition, you will help urge the Nottingham City Council to prioritize the installation of these critical safety enhancements, ensuring a secure environment for children at Middleton Primary School. Together, we can make a significant difference in the safety and well-being of our community's children. Please sign and share to help bring about this vital change.
