Improve road conditions in Mumbai's JVLR and Western Express Highway
The Issue
I have been a resident of Andheri East, Mumbai for over a decade now, and I have witnessed firsthand how the quality of our major roads, particularly JVLR (Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road) and the Western Express Highway, has deteriorated significantly over the years. These roads are crucial lifelines for the residents of Mumbai, facilitating daily commutes for thousands of people. Yet, they are riddled with potholes, unlevelled surfaces, and poor patchwork, making travel not only uncomfortable but hazardous.
Every day, countless commuters, including office-goers, students, and emergency service vehicles, use these roads. The inconsistent and subpar patchwork only provides temporary relief, and more often than not, the roads return to their dilapidated state with the onset of the monsoons. This not only results in increased vehicular wear and tear but also poses severe risks of accidents, injuries, and traffic snarls, impacting the overall quality of life and economic productivity.
According to a report by the Hindustan Times, potholes accounted for more than 20% of traffic incidents in Mumbai last year, many of which occurred on major roads like the Western Express Highway. We cannot afford to let this continue.
What we need is a comprehensive overhaul of these roads, starting with a detailed assessment of their current state, followed by a well-planned and rigorously executed reconstruction project. This should include the use of high-quality materials that can withstand heavy monsoon rains, and a commitment to regular maintenance. We urge the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Public Works Department (PWD) to allocate necessary funds and resources to address this pressing issue urgently.
The safety and efficiency of our transport infrastructure are non-negotiable. By signing this petition, you will not only help improve the daily commute for thousands but also ensure that Mumbai remains a safe city for residents and visitors alike. Let's stand together to demand better roads for our community. Please sign this petition to pave the way for change.
