Improve Pedestrian Safety on the Saintfield Road, Carryduff
Improve Pedestrian Safety on the Saintfield Road, Carryduff
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents and road users of Carryduff, are calling on the Department for Infrastructure (DFI) to take urgent action to improve pedestrian safety along the stretch of road beside the Eurospar in Carryduff.
This area sees high levels of both pedestrian and vehicle traffic, particularly from people accessing local shops and services. However, the current road layout does not provide a safe environment for pedestrians.
There are serious dark spots along this stretch of road due to inadequate street lighting. This makes it difficult for drivers to see pedestrians and for pedestrians to cross safely, especially during the evenings, winter months, and in poor weather.
The existing pedestrian crossing arrangements are not sufficient for the volume of people using this area, increasing the risk of accidents and near-misses.
We are therefore calling on DFI to:
- Carry out an urgent pedestrian safety assessment of this area.
- Improve street lighting to remove dangerous dark spots.
- Upgrade or install safer pedestrian crossing facilities appropriate for the level of use.
These changes are essential to protect residents and visitors, and to make Carryduff a safer place for everyone.
Please share with your family and friends.
