Transport for NSW acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the Northern Beaches on which we work and pays respect to Elders past and present.
Transport for NSW will carry out safety improvements on Forest Way, between Wearden Road and Glen Street, Belrose.
The Road Safety Program, launched in early 2024, aims to improve safety and reduce crashes on NSW roads. The Australian and NSW governments areinvesting $518 million into road safety projects across NSW.
As part of this program, we will be installing pedestrian fencing on Forest Way, between Wearden Road and Glen Street, to encourage the use of designated crossing points. The existing footpath at the northern corner of Glen Street and Forest Way will also be widened to provide additional space for pedestrians.
Between 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2023, a total of eight crashes were recorded in this area, including two crashes involving pedestrians. These improvements aim to reduce the risk of future crashes and enhance safety of pedestrians and road users.
What work are we doing
Our work includes:
• establishing a temporary work site
• locating existing underground services
• machine excavating for footpath extension
• tree trimming and removal
• installing pedestrian fencing
When and where we’ll be working
We will be working for up to seven night shifts between Sunday 30 November and Sunday 14 December 2025, weather permitting.
Work hours are 8pm to 5am, Sunday to Thursday. There will be no work on Friday nights, Saturdays, or public holidays.
What this means for you
You may notice:
• workers and vehicles
• traffic controllers and signage
• lane closures and reduced speed limits
• pedestrian detours with traffic controllers on site to guide you
• noise from machinery and equipment.
Access to properties will be maintained at all times.
Managing our impacts
Our work needs to be carried out at night to minimise disruption to traffic and reduce safety risks to our workers, pedestrians, and drivers.
Please keep to the speed limits and follow the direction of traffic controllers and signage.
It may be noisy at times, but we will do everything we can to minimise our impacts by:
• turning off equipment and vehicles when not in use
• completing noisier tasks, such as jackhammering, by midnight
• using quieter equipment where possible
• targeted lighting to minimise light spill.
We thank the community for their patience while we complete this important safety work.
