Improve Mosquito Control Services in Emerald Greens

Improve Mosquito Control Services in Emerald Greens
The Issue
Living in Emerald Greens Subdivision in Homestead, FL, has become a challenge, specifically when it comes to enjoying any outdoor activity. Be it a simple walk, using the pool, or having a barbecue, the presence of mosquitoes severely hampers these experiences. The health of our pets is also at risk; for instance, dogs have contracted heartworm due to the mosquito infestation. This isn't just an inconvenience; it’s a significant health threat.
The sheer volume of mosquitoes in our area affects both our outdoor and indoor lives. Mosquitoes find their way into our homes, disrupting sleep, and making everyday life uncomfortable. Overgrown lots and neglected pools exacerbate this issue by providing ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes. The county has not been upkeeping swales or maintaining sewers, which contributes to the growing mosquito population.
Despite numerous requests for service and maintenance, Miami-Dade County’s mosquito control services have not adequately addressed our needs. The procedure for reporting these issues keeps changing, creating confusion and delays. Since 2017, there hasn’t been any aerial spraying, a crucial control measure that was once routinely employed. Our community deserves better.
This is more than a nuisance; it’s a public health issue. First responders and public servants who live and work here are particularly affected, and their ability to serve the community is compromised by lack of rest due to mosquitoes. It’s crucial for Miami-Dade County to prioritize Emerald Greens and enhance mosquito control efforts.
We need immediate action: efficient mosquito control services, consistent aerial spraying, and proper maintenance of public and private properties to prevent mosquito breeding. Miami-Dade County must commit resources to protect the residents of Emerald Greens from this health hazard.
Please sign this petition to urge Miami-Dade County to take responsible and swift action to improve mosquito control services in Emerald Greens Subdivision.
