Improve maternity leave policies for families

Improve maternity leave policies for families
The Issue
Being able to support my family has always been important to me, and lately, I’ve been feeling down about the challenges we’re facing. Especially, as a new parent, I am overwhelmed by the lack of adequate support for families during the critical early months of childbirth. This situation doesn’t just affect me; countless families across the country are struggling without proper maternity leave policies.
Currently, many companies in the U.S. offer only a few weeks of paid maternity leave, or none at all, leaving parents with difficult choices between their newborns' needs and their family's financial stability. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, about 23% of all U.S. civilian workers have access to paid family leave through their employers. This is far less than what new parents need.
The emotional and physical toll of inadequate maternity leave can be overwhelming. Studies have shown that longer maternity leave can lead to better health outcomes for both mothers and infants, as well as lower rates of postpartum depression. Moreover, providing adequate maternity leave can increase employee morale, reduce turnover, and improve productivity for companies.
I urge policymakers to implement policies that require employers to provide at least 12 weeks of paid maternity leave to employees. This can be done gradually and sustainably through tax incentives for businesses and subsidies for small enterprises.
Please sign this petition to show your support for better maternity leave options, helping families like mine thrive in the critical early months of a child’s life.
