Improve Living Conditions in TDCJ George Beto Unit

Improve Living Conditions in TDCJ George Beto Unit
The Issue
I have a loved one incarcerated in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) at the George Beto Unit, and I am deeply concerned about the appalling living conditions they are subjected to. Additionally, I belong to Facebook groups with others who share their stories and grievances about the same conditions faced by their loved ones in TDCJ. It's time to bring these issues to light and demand action from those in power.
The George Beto Unit (Especially N Wing, that specifically relates to G4 incarcerated individuals) is plagued with severe hygiene issues, including an overwhelming infestation of roaches and rodents. Roaches have been reported making nests in the cells, crawling over belongings, food, and even the sleeping individuals. It is alarming to know that the presence of these pests is not just uncomfortable but also a health hazard. The potential for contracting hantavirus, a serious disease spread by rodents, is a significant threat.
Reports have surfaced about these roaches being prevalent in the chow halls as well, which raises questions about the sanitation practices in the facility. Despite these conditions, inmates are not provided with sufficient cleaning products to maintain a hygienic environment, leaving them vulnerable to diseases and creating an inhabitable living space.
This petition aims to urge Senior Warden Tim Hooper and Warden Terry Andrews of the George Beto Unit and the TDCJ administration to address and rectify these serious issues. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice has a responsibility to ensure the safety and dignity of those incarcerated. Embracing humane practices and improving living conditions should be a part of their core values.
We request immediate action to manage the pest infestations and to provide inmates with adequate cleaning supplies. Ensuring a habitable environment is not just a matter of comfort, but a fundamental human right. Hold those responsible accountable and compel them to act before the situation worsens.
Sign this petition to demand humane treatment and proper living conditions for the inmates of George Beto Unit. Their health and well-being are counting on us to raise our voices and make this change happen.
