Improve Living Conditions for Lakshmi the Elephant at Amritapuri Ashram

Improve Living Conditions for Lakshmi the Elephant at Amritapuri Ashram
The Issue
I am personally moved by the plight of Lakshmi, a captive elephant, forced to live in unsatisfactory conditions at the Amma Amritapuri Ashram in Kerala, India. As someone who believes that no animal should be kept chained or confined, this matter deeply affects me. Lakshmi has been subjected to extreme constraints on movement and is often kept caged for days on end. She has a 3 foot chain in her back foot which keeps her stuck in the same standing position every day. Lakshmi clearly had anxiety and lots of stress. You can even see scars around her feet from the chains. The poor creature is denied her natural tendencies to roam free, walk long distances, and play in the water, except for using her during religious ceremonies.
This petition demands that the authorities either provide Lakshmi with a better living environment—including a minimum of 4-6 hours of freedom daily, unrestricted movement, long daily walks, the opportunity to play in the water, and a more comfortable and spacious habitat—or hand her over to an elephant sanctuary or an animal rights organization that can secure her the quality of life she deserves.
Elephants are sentient beings known for their intelligence and emotional depth. According to a study in 'PLoS One' journal, elephants in captivity display clear signs of distress and discomfort, which can lead to physical and psychological health problems. This reinforces the need for immediate action. Our aim is not just to liberate Lakshmi, but also to set a precedent for other captive elephants.
Please sign this petition to urge the Amma and Amritapuri Ashram to take responsible action towards ensuring the wellness of Lakshmi and to raise awareness about the living conditions of captive elephants.
