Improve Living Conditions at Hollyburn Properties in Toronto
The Issue
We Deserve Better Living Conditions from Hollyburn Properties
For the past four years, we've been told the laundry facilities in our Toronto building would improve. But nothing has changed. The machines are outdated, filthy, and barely function. Our clothes come out still dirty—or soaking wet. There are only three machines for the entire building, and they’re almost always broken or in use.
We pay to use these machines, and yet Hollyburn Properties has failed to provide a basic standard of cleanliness and functionality. How is it acceptable to charge tenants for laundry that doesn’t clean or dry? We’re left hanging damp clothes in apartments already infested with mold, worsening the air quality and threatening our health.
My name is Naomi. I’m 23 years old and have lived here for four years. Since moving in, I’ve developed serious health issues due to the mold in my unit—I’ve literally coughed up black particles. And I’m not alone. This building is home to children, seniors, and families, and we are all suffering. Illness, stress, and poor mental health have become part of daily life here.
The mold problem is ongoing and severe. Our units are also crawling with roaches and pests. Heating systems in the winter are unreliable, and dangerous, plus there's no proper ventilation, making our homes unsafe year-round.
Yet despite all this, our rent continues to rise. We are being charged more and more while living in deteriorating conditions.
We are calling on Hollyburn Properties to take real, immediate action:
Replace the broken, outdated laundry machines—and add more.
Fully remove mold and implement ongoing inspection and prevention.
Eliminate pest infestations with professional treatment.
Fix heating and improve ventilation for safe year-round living.
This is not just a complaint—this is a demand for dignity, safety, and basic human decency. If we’re expected to pay rent and fees, Hollyburn must provide livable conditions in return.
Sign this petition and help me hold them accountable. DONT WORRY, THIS WILL BE ANONYMOUS. We deserve homes—not hazards.
