Improve Lighting at Pompano Beach Community Park Pickleball Courts
Improve Lighting at Pompano Beach Community Park Pickleball Courts
The Issue
Pompano Beach Community Park has 12 public pickleball courts that are enjoyed by many residents and visitors.
Unfortunately, 6 of the 12 courts have noticeably poor lighting during evening hours:
Courts #1, #3, #7, #9, #11 and #12 are the ones which have very poor lighting.
Evening is one of the busiest times at the pickleball courts. However, because of the poor visibility on these courts, many players hesitate to use them and instead wait for one of the better-lit courts.
This means that even when courts are technically available, a significant portion of the facility is not being used to its full potential.
Poor lighting is resulting in:
Difficulty seeing the ball clearly
Players avoiding otherwise available courts
Longer waits for the better-lit courts
Uneven distribution of players
A less comfortable and potentially less safe playing experience
What We Are Asking
We respectfully request that the City of Pompano Beach Parks & Recreation Department conduct an evening lighting assessment of Courts #1, #3, #7, #9, #11 and #12 and compare their illumination with the better-lit courts at the same facility.
We ask the City to identify the cause and make appropriate improvements—whether through maintenance, repair, repositioning, replacement, or additional lighting—so that all 12 courts provide reasonably consistent and adequate visibility during evening playing hours.
If improvements need to be completed in phases, we ask that the courts with the poorest lighting be prioritized.
Let's Make Better Use of the Courts We Already Have
We already have 12 pickleball courts at Community Park. We are not asking for additional courts or a major expansion.
We are simply asking that the existing courts be adequately illuminated so that all 12 courts can be comfortably and effectively used during evening hours.
If you play pickleball at Pompano Beach Community Park or support better use of our public recreational facilities, please sign and share this petition.
