Improve Inmate Living Conditions and Human Rights in Colorado Prisons

The Issue

My loved one, like several others, has been incarcerated in the state of Colorado and is being denied basic human rights. Everyday, he and many other inmates face undignified living conditions that breach our country's commitment to human rights. To be specific, these beloved husbands, sons, and fathers are denied privacy while using restrooms, sufficient meals in prison cafeterias, and the fundamental right to conjugal visits.

It distresses us deeply to see the inhumane treatment they endure. In our society, privacy is termed as a fundamental right and yet, its denial in prison is not often discussed. Additionally, according to a 2016 report, undernourishment is a prevalent issue in U.S. prisons, with food servings not meeting the required calorie intake and nutritional value. Furthermore, conjugal visits, a practice considered to promote family bonds, and inmate rehabilitation, is curtailed, depriving inmates of an important part of their lives.

We request the Colorado State Department of Corrections to improve living conditions in prisons by ensuring privacy, adequate food servings, and permitting conjugal visits. We believe that the preservation of basic human rights, even behind bars, is paramount to a healthy, equitable society.

We need you to sign this petition to show your support for human dignity and fairness in our state prison system. Let's help in making these necessary changes. Your signature matters - for my loved one, for countless other inmates, and for the integrity of our society.
