Improve grade accessibility at our school (PA)
The Issue
Throughout my time at PA, having consistent access to my grades has sometimes been a challenge. There have been times when I have not known where I stood academically in a class until relatively late in the quarter or semester, which can make it difficult to recognize areas where I could improve or seek additional help.
I understand that teachers have many responsibilities and that grades cannot always be entered immediately, especially when assignments require significant time to grade. However, in some classes, grades may only be entered or updated a few times throughout a quarter or semester rather than on a regular basis. This can make it difficult for students to keep track of their academic progress without having to ask a teacher directly or arrange a meeting simply to find out their current grade.
Having a more consistent and accessible way to view grades would allow students to stay informed about their academic standing, identify areas where they may need additional support, and make more informed decisions about their schoolwork throughout the semester. This would not require teachers to grade assignments immediately; rather, it would simply give students access to grades as they are entered.
An online grade portal or app, similar to systems such as PowerSchool or Infinite Campus, could provide a convenient way for students to view their grades and track their progress in one place. A system like this could benefit students, teachers, and parents by making academic information more accessible while recognizing that teachers need appropriate time to complete their grading. Also the app won’t/shouldn’t be a requirement since not all students will what to access their grades on the app at all times because it can create anxiety. So only those who choose to have or use the app can do so and those who may not want to do not have to and are not forced to.
