Improve GO Transit services for Clarington residents

Improve GO Transit services for Clarington residents
The Issue
Getting to the Oshawa GO from Newcastle and Bowmanville and back by public transit has become a challenge, particularly during morning and evening rush hour. Our only express option is 88B, which only runs every hour and a half. This limited schedule leaves us with overcrowded buses and often longer wait times/delays. It's especially frustrating during the harsh winter months when delays are inevitable, and the cold is unforgiving. The alternative is to take local transit, but this trip takes over an hour and is inefficient.
The demand for reliable and frequent transit service is not merely a convenience for us, it's a necessity. Doug Ford has ordered OPS employees back to work 4 and 5 days a week. This will greatly increase ridership and impact highway traffic. Until the much-anticipated Bowmanville train service is operational, there is a pressing need to reinstate the former 91 Route to meet the needs of our fast-growing community. This route provided a more frequent and less congested option for residents trying to make their way to the Oshawa GO Station and home during peak rush hour, and its reinstatement would alleviate much of the current transit stress. The reinstatement may also leave room for improvements and modifications to the 88B that could allow travellers from Peterborough to get to Oshawa GO and home more quickly.
Clarington and surrounding areas like Peterborough have shown population growth, further stressing the existing transit infrastructure. Increased investment in transit services will not only ease current pain points but also offer long-term solutions for our growing communities.
Join us in urging GO Transit to step up the service levels and meet the basic transportation needs of Clarington residents. Sign this petition to advocate for the reinstatement of the 91 Route and the improvement of current bus services in our area. Let's work together to ensure that every resident has access to reliable, timely, and efficient transit options.
