The intersection at Weston Street and Woolcock Street/ Bruce Highway has been a traffic hazard since the day it was put in and a plan in 2017 was to have a controlled intersection put in place.

Since 2017 there has been a fatality on 9th Sep 2019, multiple accidents and near misses at this intersection which did not need to occur if there had been a proper controlled intersection put in place as was originally planned.

A set of traffic lights at this intersection would delay the traffic for a minor period however it would help alleviate the issues that are currently in place.

Due to this type of intersection, people are taking high risks to cross the intersection both illegally and legally or enter onto the main highway north bound which is currently 100 km an hour from a stop from Weston St. Reducing the speed would not alleviate the dangers of this intersection, only a direct change to this intersection would make it safer and more controlled for all road users.

This area has became a major intersection for local businesses, residents and all road users, cars, push bikes, pedestrians and heavy vehicles (trucks and buses).

Now that the Mount Louisa walking tracks are open the area is now seeing even more traffic. To the extent that there is new lighting being put in place to make the road and footpath safer for all.

The local School and Kindy on Bayswater Road would also benefit from this major intersection upgrade making it safer for their school buses and parents dropping off and collecting children from the northern suburbs.
