Improve existing mental health services with 2025 Budget

Improve existing mental health services with 2025 Budget
The Issue
We welcome the recent announcement of Budget 2025 seeing an increase in funding for mental health services of 143.5 million. It is timely and badly needed in this country. According to Mental Health Reform, 127.5 million is planned to maintain existing levels of service. The issue at hand is that existing levels of services in this country for mental health aren't up to the standard required to save people's lives. We are requesting the Minister of Mental Health to detail the allocation for mental health services and the breakdown on how the services are going to be improved going forward. The current services are not fit for purpose and we need better mental health support.
We need a more accessible mental health service where nobody should be turned away or be left waiting, especially when they're in crisis. There needs to be better support and a clear protocol to follow, led by compassionate mental health service professionals.

We are here as part of the Maxi's Law campaign, a community-based movement with a clear and urgent goal: to ensure that every person, regardless of wealth or status, who seeks support for mental health at an HSE facility, receives that support immediately. Our demand is simple—no one should be turned away or left waiting, even if it means referring individuals to private care at state expense.
This is a campaign to end discrimination in our mental health services, where treatment should be based on need, not ability to pay. We believe that equitable access to mental health support is a basic human right, and together we can make this change a reality.
Stand with us as we fight for a fairer, more compassionate mental health system.
