Improve Emergency Service Employees and PTSD Workers Compensation

The issue

Many Emergency Service Employees who have served their community over a long period of time, will suffer from PTSD from one cause or another.

I myself was attacked and feared for my life like never before.  As a paramedic of 18 years, this was the first time I had feared for my life.  However the result of the attack was that 18 years of jobs came crashing down on me.  Over 100 events of telling loved ones that their husband, wife, daughter, son, brother or sister or friend had passed away.  18 years of trauma, 18 years of seeing things humans shouldn't see.  Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my job, but the reality is, I am struggling to cope anymore.

I am on workers compensation,  and am getting therapy and help.  I have diagnosed PTSD, Anxiety and Depression.   I have insomnia,  I sleep 2 or 3 hours a night.

I am getting medical attention.

But the thing that makes it worse is the time limits.  PTSD takes a LONG time to to recover from...  The current QLD workers compensation scheme, offers 85% pay for 6 months, then it drops to 75%, it can eventually drop to pension rates or 60%...

This is just wrong.  I, along with many others have been injured in the line of duty, serving my community.  I am being punished for being broken by the job.

I am calling on the Qld government and ALL governments to support the people that service the community.

If we were armed forces, we would have access to TPI gold cards etc, but because we are state based employees we don't get anything....

Please put pressure on your government to support those that are there to service.  I am broken, and I am being financially punished for being this way...

Thankyou for your support
