Why this petition matters
Started by Rebecca Pank
For all college students, it is essential to eat quality, fulfilling meals every day, so one is able to perform at their highest academic level.
The dining halls at University of Kentucky are lacking in high quality, healthy food options. Among the issues of concern:
- Many students avoid eating at either of the main dining halls due to low quality options.
- Fresh fruits and vegetables are typically not available.
- Quality Vegan/vegetarian options are very few.
- There is only one station in each of the two main dining halls for students with special dietary needs, and the options here are bland and repetitive. Additionally, this station is not always safe due to mishandling of food and cross-contamination.
- The food options listed on the dining hall website often do not match what’s actually available in the dining hall.
- Hours of operation of the dining options do not meet the typical schedule of students.
- Several stations are frequently closed during normal hours of operation, resulting in even fewer available options.
These are just a few of the ongoing problems with the University’s dining program.
We are petitioning University of Kentucky Dining services to make the school’s dining options healthy, accessible, and safe for all students, and to be among the schools that are setting the gold standard in dining options.
