The Issue

For several months, I have faced numerous challenges involving Child Protection Services (CPS) and the Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) here in Louisville, KY. As a parent battling a custody case, the lack of support and the evident bias in rulings, despite providing substantial evidence of my situation, have been overwhelmingly frustrating. This experience has highlighted the urgent need for systemic change within these agencies.

Child Protection Services and DCBS are fundamental institutions meant to safeguard the welfare of children. However, the communication gaps between social workers and parents have made the process daunting. Parents are often left in the dark, unsure of their rights and the specific dos and don'ts of navigating their cases. Clear information and support are lacking, and this can lead to unnecessary stress and confusion during such critical times.

Moreover, there is an alarming trend of false drug screenings being requested or filed inaccurately. These mistakes can jeopardize the integrity of cases and damage family lives irreparably. It is imperative that any screening or test be backed by verifiable evidence and conducted with utmost accuracy.

To address these issues, I propose that CPS and DCBS implement a more specific and structured communication system. Social workers should provide clear guidelines to parents involved in custody or related cases. Additionally, it is crucial for caseworkers to undergo comprehensive training and have firsthand experience in child care before taking on cases. This ensures that they can effectively manage and support families in need.

This petition calls for an overhaul of the current practices by re-evaluating the training programs and communication protocols used by CPS and DCBS. Our goal is to ensure that no family in Louisville, KY, or anywhere, suffers undue hardship due to miscommunications or lack of proper guidance.

Sign this petition to demand a better system that genuinely prioritizes and protects the well-being of our children and families. Together, we can foster a more transparent, informed, and supportive environment for everyone involved.
