The Issue

Parents and Young people will feel my pain, when I say the DVLA driving test system is a joke and the Government keep saying they are making changes and things are improving.  I can 100% say the are not, they are growing increasing worse rapidly.

My son keeps trying to get a driving test but can't due to the limited availability and frustrating delays. It's disheartening to see him and many others struggle with the excessive waiting times and the need to go through external agencies, often at a significant cost on top of the DVLA cost, just to secure a spot for their driving test.  They are not able to book locally but often having to travel miles away from home, just to be able to have a test.

In many areas, driving tests are a crucial step for teenagers and young adults to gain independence and access to broader job opportunities. Yet, the current system forces them to wait for up to six months or more between tests, which is not only inconvenient but also impractical for those who need to drive for work, school, or family commitments.

We propose that the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and relevant authorities expand the availability of driving test slots. This can be achieved by increasing the number of examiners, extending test centre hours, and utilizing additional temporary test sites to accommodate the growing need for assessments.  That driving instructors shouldn't be able to book test and that people who has failed should be given priority.  That the number of major faults should be increased from 1.

By making these changes, not only will aspiring drivers have better access to tests, but it will also reduce the backlog and waiting times significantly. This will subsequently aid in the development of skills and safety on our roads as drivers will not have to prolong their learning due to waiting periods.

Sign this petition to urge the relevant authorities to address this pressing issue and to make driving tests more accessible, affordable, and efficient for everyone.
