The Issue

Growing up, I've always had a passion for animal welfare. As someone who deeply cares about ethical treatment of animals, it has been a long-standing dream of mine to pursue studies where I can contribute to creating a compassionate world for all living beings. However, I have noticed a concerning gap in the standards of animal welfare within educational institutions, particularly in the courses and programs related to veterinary science and zoology.

Many institutions lack adequate guidelines and practices that ensure humane treatment of animals used in educational settings. This is not just a local issue, but one that affects countless students and animals across the globe. Students, like myself, who dream of making a positive impact on animal welfare, often feel disillusioned by the practices they witness which sometimes contradict the very essence of compassion and ethics.

Recent statistics have highlighted a glaring need for reforms in how educational institutions handle animal welfare. According to the Humane Society International, more than 115 million animals are used in laboratory settings worldwide each year. Many of these animals are used in educational programs without sufficient oversight or humane consideration, leading to unnecessary suffering.

To address this issue, I am calling on educational institutions to commit to higher standards of animal welfare in their curriculums. This includes implementing strict guidelines for the care and ethical treatment of animals, promoting alternative methods that do not involve animal subjects, and ensuring regular audits to enforce compliance.

By enhancing animal welfare standards, educational institutions can inspire students to carry forward the torch of ethical treatment into their professional careers. They can also set a precedent for other institutions to follow, creating a ripple effect of positive change that aligns education with compassion and care.

Join me in advocating for these necessary changes. Sign this petition to urge educational institutions to prioritize animal welfare and contribute to a more humane academic environment for everyone involved.
