Improve Animal Welfare - Public Animal Welfare Advisory Board!

Improve Animal Welfare - Public Animal Welfare Advisory Board!
The Issue
In BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC, there are hundreds of stray cats and dogs. Some have been abandoned in our community and many are a result of in-tact strays continuously reproducing. Local shelters and animal rescues are at MAX CAPACITY! We are limited with options on how to help these animals or address the overwhelming stray population. Many counties have what is called a PUBLIC ANIMAL WELFARE ADVISORY BOARD as a solution. This group of individuals would consist of an appointed VETERINARIAN, a COMMISSIONER, a SHERIFF'S OFFICER, an ANIMAL WELFARE PROTECTION SERVICES OFFICER, and LOCAL ANIMAL RESCUE ORGANIZATION REPRESENTATIVES. This advisory board would work with the community to create, educate on the topic of, and maintain animal welfare laws, promote spay/neuter, animal adoption, and decrease the stray population. We would like to unite with the community to address ongoing animal welfare concerns as well as anything the community may bring to the Board's attention. This Advisory Board will help get the public involved and solve some of these issues and make changes to our current ordinances to better protect dogs and cats in our community.
We are disappointed to share that we have presented to the Sheriff, Animal Welfare Protective Services, and the Commissioners of BRUNSWICK COUNTY in regards of creating a Public Animal Welfare Advisory Board, but they denied the need to add this committee.
We are asking for the community to support this much needed Advisory Board by signing this petition.
