I am a resident of Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. As an individual who deeply cares for animals, it breaks my heart to witness the mistreatment of helpless cats and dogs on our streets. These stray animals are often hungry and instead of receiving help, they are subjected to harm. This is not the society we want to live in.

Our city needs a radical change in how we treat our animals. We need stronger animal protection laws that will safeguard their rights and welfare. Globally, there's an increasing awareness about animal protection cases but locally we seem to be lagging behind.

According to the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), there has been a significant increase in reported cases of animal cruelty over recent years. This alarming trend underscores the urgent need for stricter enforcement of existing laws as well as new legislation that addresses gaps in animal welfare protection.

We call upon our local government officials in Quezon City to take immediate action towards improving conditions for these innocent creatures who cannot speak up for themselves. We urge them to implement stricter penalties for those found guilty of animal abuse or neglect and increase funding towards rescue operations and shelters.
