My hometown, Jackson County, is in an animal welfare crisis. As residents, we are facing a surge in the population of stray canines, causing stress to both the local community and the animals. Our existing canine holding area at the Jackson County Landfill is falling short, in dire need of repair, upgrade, and expansion to manage this crisis effectively.

Unfortunately, the current holding facility is not only archaic but also quite cramped, causing distress to animals. According to the Animal Welfare Institute, distressed animals might develop behavioral changes, which can negatively impact their chances of adoption (Animal Welfare Institute, 2020). Our request is simple - to invest in far-reaching and necessary renovations to the facility.

By expanding the size of the kennels and implementing much-needed repairs and enhancements, we can make sure these canines are given a better chance at survival. Improved facilities will help these stray dogs become healthier, happier, and more likely for adoption, leading to a decrease in the stray population over time.
