The Issue

Navigating the complexities of trust formation can be an overwhelming journey. I personally embarked on this path recently, seeking to secure the future of my loved ones and to strategically manage my assets. I quickly discovered a significant challenge: there is a lack of accessible, reliable, and comprehensive resources to guide individuals through the process of establishing a trust.

Trusts can offer numerous benefits, from providing peace of mind to ensuring that your estate is handled according to your wishes. From my experience, trying to find information on how to effectively format a trust was daunting. The legal jargon, the fees involved, and the absence of a clear step-by-step guide made the process hard to navigate and frustrating.

I am calling on organizations, legal institutions, and online platforms to offer more user-friendly and detailed educational resources on trust formation. These resources should explain the different types of trusts, the costs, and the step-by-step procedures involved in drafting a trust document. In particular, online tools and webinars that are free or affordable can be of immense help.

According to a 2022 survey, less than 40% of adults have a will or estate plan in place. This can be attributed to the complexity and cost of the process. Additionally, many find themselves stuck while choosing what kind of trust suits their needs. There is a multitude of trust types — revocable, irrevocable, living trusts — each suited to unique circumstances and goals. Without access to clear guidance, many individuals are unable to make informed decisions that could protect their families' futures.

Therefore, I urge you to sign this petition to advocate for simplified, accessible educational tools and resources that demystify the process of trust formation. Let's make it easier for everyone to protect what matters most to them. By taking this step, we can ensure that financial planning is a right, not a privilege.
