Impose traffic lights on London Road Roundabout
Impose traffic lights on London Road Roundabout
The Issue
Navigating the London Road Roundabout in Canterbury has become increasingly challenging, particularly during peak hours. This roundabout serves as the only accessible route to my workplace. However, due to the ongoing transformation of the Westgate Towers and numerous roadworks around Canterbury means leaving the roundabout after 5pm feels like an impossible task. More concerningly, there have been numerous near miss accidents reported, which highlights the urgent need for action.
The traffic congestion and safety concerns at this roundabout are not just my personal issues – they affect countless other residents and commuters in the Canterbury area. The roundabout is a crucial junction, and the lack of traffic control measures exacerbates the chaos and risk during busy periods.
A feasible solution to this problem is the installation of traffic lights. Traffic lights would regulate the flow of vehicles and significantly reduce the potential for accidents during peak times. By controlling the traffic flow efficiently, not only will safety improve, but travel times can be reduced, thereby improving the daily commute for many.
According to recent statistics from the Department for Transport, junction improvements have consistently shown a reduction in traffic incidents and smoother traffic flow. Implementing traffic lights here would align with such findings and provide much-needed relief to all who use this route daily.
We urge both Canterbury City Council and KCC Highways to take immediate action and install traffic lights at the London Road Roundabout. Ensuring the safety and efficiency of our roadways should be a priority for the community leaders.
Let's prevent more near misses and possible accidents. Join me and support this petition to make the necessary changes for a safer and more time-efficient commute. Sign the petition today to make a difference.
