The Issue

My house stands adjacent to a sewage treatment area, and the untreated sewage from this place is directly discharged into a nearby river in Balotra. This thoughtless practice has led to devastating effects on our local environment. The once fertile land has lost its productivity, and the sharp rise in the mosquito population puts our health at constant peril.

From all corners of the globe, in all of humankind’s history, rivers have always been life-sustaining. However, the unregulated dumping of untreated sewage is turning our water bodies into breeding grounds for disease and pollution. In India itself, an estimated 70% of our surface water resources have become contaminated due to poor wastewater management (Report by Centre for Science and Environment, India).

It is essential that we enforce strict regulations on sewage treatment before its disposal into water bodies. We demand the local authorities to take immediate and effective actions. We also ask for regular monitoring and strict penalties for violations.

Let us conserve and protect our water bodies to sufficiently sustain life and biodiversity. By enforcing this regulation, we can ensure the health and prosperity of our communities and preserve the vitality of our ecosystem.
