Impose sanctions on Bangladesh for persecuting Hindu minorities
The Issue
In Bangladesh, there are some very recent cases that have brought to light the very dangerous situation that exists for Hindu minorities there. A very unfortunate occurrence happened with regard to the lynching and burning alive of Dipu Chandra Das, which brings to light just how persecuted these groups are. Violence and persecution of this kind, perpetrated against minorities such as Hindus, should never be tolerated and requires attention from UN and global communities to ensure their well-being and rights are taken care of.
The Hindu community in Bangladesh has been suffering under enforced violence and discrimination for a long time. Despite efforts at international awareness, there is little to no support for minorities, making it even more important that the international community takes effective action. Sanctions on a country like Bangladesh could make a statement that the international community will not stand idly by while human rights of this nature are so flagrantly flouted. There has recently been a spurt in violence against Hindu minorities in countries like Bangladesh, according to reports by human rights agencies. For example, cases of violence with no provocation, including attacks on homes and Hindu temples, have been well documented by international human rights agencies like the International Federation for Human Rights. The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council reported over 2000 attacks on minorities took place in just the last year.
Thus, we appeal to the world leaders, activists, and organizations to appeal for sanctions to Bangladesh. The sanctions would target the need to pressurize the Bangladesh government to ensure the safety and security of the Hindu minorities and follow the basic principles of human rights. The appeal is not intended to penalize the people but to press the Bangladesh government to ensure the laws are followed to safeguard its citizens, irrespective of their religious affiliations.
In fact, this call-to-action isn’t about religion alone; it’s about all of humanity and their right to lead their lives free from fear. Through our sanctions, we hope that we can strive for some legislative change in the Bangladeshi government in the hope that one day all religions can live side-by-side in peace. We would encourage all parties involved in caring about the Hindu community in Bangladesh to stand together in solidarity with our important cause.
I urge that this petition be signed and circulated to support us in calling for justice and safety for Hindu minorities in Bangladesh. Each and every signed petition gives strength to our voice for change and a brighter future.
