EMERGENCY DEMO: Defend The Right To Protest, Don’t Ban Palestine Action
The Home Secretary’s plan to proscribe Palestine Action as terrorists is part of a wider crackdown on those protesting for Palestinian rights. Join us at 6pm outside parliament tomorrow, 2 July, to demand: defend the right to protest, don’t ban Palestine Action!
The British government is attempting to criminalise those demanding that it stops providing Israel with the military, political and diplomatic support it needs to carry out its genocidal assault against the Palestinian people. Tomorrow, MPs will vote on the proscription of Palestine Action. We need as many people as possible outside parliament to demonstrate widespread public opposition to this outrageous and repressive step.
Earlier this week, dozens of artists and cultural figures including Tilda Swinton, Paul Weller and Khalid Abdalla joined human rights organisations, MPs, Peers and civil society organisations in opposing the planned proscription. Already over 67,000 people have signed our petition calling on the government to drop its proposals and for MPs to oppose them
On Friday, Palestine Action will be seeking an injunction from the High Court to pause the home secretary’s attempts to progress with the proscription order. We must show MPs and the court that there is huge public opposition to this proposal.
The Home Secretary has based her proscription on allegations of criminal damage against property. Today leading UN experts have made clear, that ‘acts of protest that damage property, but are not intended to kill or injure people, should not be treated as terrorism.’
Spray painting warplanes is not terrorism. Palestine Action aims to prevent violence against people by interrupting the flow of weapons used in brutal violence against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip, widely understood to be crimes against humanity.
The government’s attempts to criminalise dissent come at a time when the Palestinian people are facing the darkest moment in their struggle for liberation. Israel is continuing its relentless bombing campaign against the people of Gaza, including daily massacres of starving people gathered to collect much-needed aid.
The government needs to know that our growing movement will not be silenced. Join us tomorrow at 6pm outside parliament to defend our right to protest - demand the government halts its plans for the proscription of Palestine Action.
See you tomorrow.
In solidarity,
