Impose Permit Limitations to Preserve Bella Vista's Natural Scenic Beauty

The Issue

Our community of Bella Vista represents peace, nature, and tranquility. We are not just residents but stewards of this scenic beauty, bird watchers, and innovators envisioning a sustainable future. In recent years, however, we've noticed an unsettling trend of overdevelopment that risks shifting our beautiful village into a typical suburb which threatens our appeal to existing and future nature lovers.

The Bella Vista Property Owners Association must strike a balance that ensures growth while preserving the environment. Our plea is for the introduction of stricter permit restrictions that will maintain our natural, treed aesthetic and put rules in place on building on adjacent lots. Additionally, there needs to be a cap on the percentage of lots sold to builders versus existing homeowners to regulate rapid and unrestricted urban development.

Recent statistics from the National Association of Home Builders show that an unrestricted approach to construction reduces local green spaces by up to 40% (NAHB, 2020). If such trends continue, we stand to lose a significant portion of our village's natural beauty. In communities similar to ours, protective measures have successfully allowed for development while keeping the integrity of the environment intact (Source: Sustainable Development Handbook, 2012). We can achieve growth AND preserve Bella Vista's scenic beauty. Balanced development is beneficial; it respects the environment and enhances the quality of life for all residents.

We raise our voices and call upon the POA to act swiftly and responsibly regarding the future of Bella Vista. Let us remember that once destroyed, nature's beauty cannot be repurchased at any price. Secure Bella Vista's aesthetic and protect our access to nature with these proposed development restrictions. Please sign this petition today and take a stand for Bella Vista's natural beauty.
