Impose Limits on Out-of-Province, Corporate, and Union Political Donations in Saskatchewan

The Issue

I am a citizen in the beautiful province of Saskatchewan.

I have watched, with growing alarm, the increasing influence of out-of-province, corporate, and union funding of our political parties. The lack of laws regulating these donations creates a situation riddled with potential abuse, and threatens to tarnish our political process.

These external influences, with no inherent interest or stake in the welfare of our province, are becoming more pervasive in our politics. According to a study by CBC News, in 2018 alone, out-of-province corporations donated over $2 million to our political parties. Moreover, unions and local corporations that might not have the best interests of the province at heart have also gained undue influence through heavy funding. At present, Saskatchewan is the only province in Canada that doesn't restrict such contributions (source: CBC News).

It's disheartening to see Saskatchewan's political landscape, which should be primarily shaped by its residents, being sculpted by distant entities with potentially ulterior motives. This is why I implore the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly to impose limits on such contributions to our political parties. We need our politics to reflect the best interests of Saskatchewan's people, not external entities with bottomless pockets.

Sensible regulation around political donations is a critical step towards ensuring the integrity of our political process, preventing undue influence and potential corruption. Let us champion transparent, accountable democracy in our beloved province. Please sign this petition to make our voices heard. Help us impose stricter controls on out-of-province, corporate, and union political donations in Saskatchewan.
