Impose Heavy Taxes on Breeders to Fund Animal Rescues and shelters

Impose Heavy Taxes on Breeders to Fund Animal Rescues and shelters
The Issue
Thousands of dogs are needlessly euthanized every day in the United States. The situation is especially dire in places like California, where hundreds of dogs are lost daily. These include puppies as young as 12 weeks and seniors who have been part of a family for over a decade - indiscriminate of age, color, or breed. This tragic reality compels us to seek immediate action. Breeding practices contribute to the overpopulation of pets, putting an undue strain on shelters which are often their last resort. Many of these shelters are under-resourced, struggling to provide adequate care and find homes for these innocent lives.
We propose a law that levies a 75% tax on breeders, with the revenue to be donated to certified animal rescue organizations. This initiative would not only discourage breeding but also provide financial support to animal shelters and rescue centers. Each year, approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized (670,000 dogs and 860,000 cats), according to the ASPCA. With the implementation of this law, we could dramatically reduce that number, giving each homeless pet a fighting chance to thrive and be adopted.
We urge policymakers to consider this law seriously – the well-being of our country’s pet population depends on it. Please take a stand for countless, innocent lives and sign this petition. Raise your voice for those who can't.
