Impose a Temporary National Ban on Non-Working Dog Breeding

Impose a Temporary National Ban on Non-Working Dog Breeding
The Issue
In the United Kingdom, an urgent, heartbreaking crisis continues to unfold. Every day, countless healthy dogs are euthanised to make room for even more unwanted and straying dogs. Rescues, kennels, and pounds nationwide are saturated. Given that this situation has reached critical levels following the aftermath of the surge in careless backyard breeding during and following the Covid-19 pandemic, leading to an unprecedented increase in dogs needing urgent rescues, we urgently need to action.
The truth of the matter is, I am not alone in this witnessing this crisis unfold. Like many, I spend my free time sharing urgent cases on social media and have noticed the situation growing more desperate as the years go by. The time has come for us all to take collective conscious action to curb this devastating trend.
As a keen advocate for animal welfare and a witness to this worsening predicament, I propose a temporary national ban on breeding all dogs for domestic homes - excluding dogs for working purposes. According to 2020 statistics there are 100,000 homeless dogs in rescues/shelters at any one time, not including statistics for dogs looking for new homes privately — with this number undoubtedly growing amid the recent crises.
Instigating a temporary ban on non-work dog breeding allows the needed time to reduce the number of unwanted and homeless dogs, providing much needed relief to our rescues and kennels that are under extreme pressures.
Therefore, I am asking you to stand with me and sign this petition. Demand the authorities introduce a temporary ban on non-working dog breeding to alleviate the strain on shelters and ultimately save the lives of countless dogs. Please lend your voice to this crucial issue, let's use this as a stepping stone towards a future where every dog has a loving home. Sign this petition now.
