Petition updateImported Honey to be banned ...Too Soon to open boarders to Varroa

The industrialised farming industry that exploit honeybees for pollination purposes have influenced the NSW DPI into a disturbing decision to allow interstate migratory beekeeping to commence.

While they kill billions of bees in NSW and apply a poisoning program that kills wild and indigenous bees it beggars belief they will allow the potential spread of the mite to through out Australia.

 I am sad thinking of those poor NSW beekeepers whose hives have been destroyed may will be all in vain. Thinking of all the volunteer workers, beekeepers and DPI staff that are trying to contain the infestation only to have a doggy permit system hurt the potential of Australia remaining Varroa free.

We need to stop all hive movement in NSW until Varroa is contained. We should be taking a precautionary approach no NSW hives should cross borders until we go 6 months without a detection.

It was only about the 7th Dec 2022 that dpi last expanded the red zones because they found more Varroa Mites,  and had to destroy more Apiarys ,  so that's about 6 weeks ago.

@nsw_dpi

“The fastest way to spread Varroa mite is by people moving honeybees, hives and apiary equipment between apiary sites.

That's why we put movement restrictions in place as soon as the first mites were detected and confirmed.”

Beekeepers in the red zones are at breaking point

“Why are they killing my healthy hives and poisoning indigenous bees while spreading Varroa around the state and now interstate”

Effected NSW honey producer.

“ I've been part of the effort to contain and eradicate this wretched mite and it's been devastating for so many. Amateur beekeepers have to wash all there hives every 16 weeks. Migratory beekeepers have to wash a mere 10% of their hives and when you're talking hundreds or thousands of hives 10% isn't enough and then to send them interstate for pollination. What about the 90% of untested hives. It only takes 1 mite. It just doesn't make any sense to me. I know peoples livelihoods hang on these decisions but what about bee lives... they matter to me and the whole human race when it comes to food security. We need more time to pass before we start sending been across boarders. We're all going out bit, let it not be in vain.
