Like many other beekeepers around Australia I have become victim to a beehive being stolen. It was stolen from a sight where I removed bees last Friday at 5 Alexander Cresent Rye . I was removing bees from a letterbox.

I checked the bees on Friday and encouraged the queen into the box at 7pm.
Yesterday I went to check on how the bees were going and the hive had been stolen.
Rehoming bees is not easy work . Pest controllers charge about $180 to kill bees but most people I find are reluctant to want to spend a similar amount to save them. As bees forage during the day late evening is the time a beekeeper must return to pick up the colony.
The realestate agent who hired me to do the removal is shocked that someone would steal bees.
The box is clearly marked with my beekeeping registration number and phone number. The brand new box with bees is worth approximately $350.
This is really disappointing. I will report the incident to police today and will investigate tracking devices that I can apply to some of my hives.
