Implore City and State Officials to Cease Use of X Platform in Favor of Alternatives

The Issue

As a loyal citizen of the United States, I hold strong belief that the foundations of our democracy are endangered when our public figures and representatives rely on controversial platform X, prominently backed by figures like Musk. This concerns me on a personal level, as I feel increasingly uncomfortable whenever I receive official correspondence via this platform. I am neither alone in this concern nor in my desire for change.

The X platform has consistently proven to be filled with a slew of resources targeted towards diverse groups such as women, minorities, the LGBTQ+ community, Latinos, and so forth. Yet, the stories of many users, myself included, reflect a feeling of discomfort and threat when navigating this platform. There are alternatives available today, like BlueSky, which promise equivalent functionality without compromising on safety or comfort.

It is paramount that our state and city officials acknowledge and react to this grave concern. They are representatives chosen by us to represent our interests, and it is expected that they respect the concerns of their constituents. By transitioning to a less controversial and more universally accepted interface, they will communicate a respect for all citizens' feelings of safety and comfort.

I strongly urge fellow citizens, regardless of your affiliation with platform X, to sign this petition. Let's encourage our city and state officials to respect our collective voice and shift their operations away from a platform that leaves some of us feeling threatened and uncomfortable. Sign this petition today to stand on the right side of digital citizenship and democracy.
