Implementing caution beacon at HWY82 & RATCLIFFE RD/MEYERS HILL RD
The Issue
The intersection at Highway 82 and Ratcliffe Rd/Meyers Hill Rd is notorious among local residents as a dangerous crossing point. The lack of adequate warning or signaling for oncoming traffic has led to numerous accidents, many of which could have been prevented. The latest fatality was a harsh reminder of the urgency for change.
Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration underscores the reality of high-risk intersections and the effectiveness of caution beacons. Statistics show that proper warning signs and signals can reduce accident rates by as much as 30%. With this knowledge, we urge Governor Brian P. Kemp and the GDOT District 5 Engineer to install a caution beacon at this perilous intersection.
Installing a caution beacon would provide drivers with the necessary warning to exercise increased caution, potentially saving lives and reducing the number of accidents significantly. It's a small, achievable step that can make a world of difference for our community. It is cost effective, universally recognized, and can be easily put up in no time.
As of right now, there are no public announcements from GDOT for any plans or projects related to this intersection for 2025-2026. The “R CUT” suggested will be extremely costly and leave a big footprint. It will need a lot put into planning, excavations, paving, reinforcing, safety measures, etc. Not to mention the labor and could take several months to come up with a plan, get permits, and complete. Potentially causing road closures as well.
Please join me in calling on our local government and GDOT to take immediate action! Sign this petition to demand the installation of a caution beacon at Highway 82 and Ratcliffe Rd/Meyers Hill Rd.
