Implement Work Permits for Minors Aged 13 and Up for Paying jobs

The Issue

Working jobs at a young age will help them to learn responsibility, handle money, and work jobs and internship.

We started this petition inspired by a deep-seated desire to help minors aged 13 and above harness more job opportunities, hone their skills, and accrue responsibility from an early age. It is crucial that our youngsters get a chance to lay the groundwork for a brighter future; beneficial both for them and our communities at large. Today, they are barred from high-paying jobs and internships in places like restaurants and other local businesses, oftentimes missing out on precious job experience opportunities.

In 2019, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that only 18.8% of teens were employed, many of them were in low-paying jobs, signifying a lack of diversity and substantial opportunities (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2019). In 1938, the Fair Labor Standards Act was enacted to protect kids from hazardous employment. But times have changed now. It is apt to adapt to contemporary needs by enabling work permits for minors aged 13 and up, allowing them to work in specific fields. This would not only grant them financial independence but also imbue practical skills required to steer their future career paths.

Let us rally for better opportunities for our younger generation. We urge lawmakers to revise the working age system and implement work permits for minors aged 13 and above. This policy modification would allow our youth to secure higher-paying jobs, and internships leading to a multi-skilled, responsible, financially independent future generation. Please show your endorsement for our future leaders by signing this petition.
