Implement Water Refilling Stations on UPHSD to Reduce the Use of Single Use Plastic

The Issue

There are a lot of issues we are currently facing here at our own campus. Among them are cleanliness in classrooms, accessible water stations, canteen services, eco-friendly practices, and trash bin placement. However, most of these are not major problems since the UPHSD generally provides good services in these areas. For example, classrooms are relatively clean, the canteen offers decent service, eco-friendly practices are being promoted, and trash bins are appropriately placed. That said, one issue that stands out and needs more attention is the accessibility of water stations.

Facing the growing issue of plastic pollution – a problem that becomes more immense with each passing day – many of us have begun to ask: Is sorting our trash enough? As students of UPHSD we already make use of personal tumblers yet still the quantity of PET bottles discarded daily is staggering. It shouldn't be this way. A large part of the problem lies in the lack of accessible water refilling stations within our educational institution.

Building our own water refilling stations will drastically lessen the use of single-use plastics, striking a serious blow against the larger issue at hand. Not only does this promise a reduction in pollution, but it brings us closer to a sustainable school environment.

Furthering this initiative, our own campus can contribute on reducing the use of plastic pollution.. It is a crucial step towards a more sustainable future. We can't afford to wait any longer. Sign this petition to ensure our campus leads in the fight against plastic pollution. Together, let's make our space cleaner and greener. Act now. Sign today.
