The Issue

I've witnessed a heart-wrenching sight, integral to the very spirit of Conway – our beloved peacocks - bearing the brunt of frequent, bustling traffic. The sorrow experienced when a peacock from the flock is lost is palpitable. From my observations, these majestic birds showcase their acute sense of camaraderie when a member of their pack dies, often displaying noticeable distress. Hence, there's an undeniable need to defend these creatures that hold a significant place in our community's heart.

The Conway neighborhood's roads are flooded with these symbolic birds; their vibrant feathers adding a dash of nature's beauty to our daily hustle. Yet, the increased traffic presents a growing danger to the peacock population. According to the Mourning Dove Report by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, traffic accidents account for a significant percentage of bird fatalities, a fact our peacocks sadly attest to.

To ensure the safety of these extravagant birds, a critical action is necessary - installing more warning signs around the neighborhood. Warning signs in high-traffic areas have been proven effective in significantly reducing roadkill incidents, thus their implementation can undoubtedly safeguard these noble creatures.

It's high time we put into action measures that will not only protect these vibrant birds but also ultimately preserve the unique identity of Conway that these peacocks have come to represent. In recognizing the peacocks' value to our neighborhood and taking the necessary measures to safe-guard them, we also ensure that future generations can enjoy the neighborhood in its full glory. Please sign this petition requesting the installment of warning signs to preserve our precious peacock population.
