Implement Tunnel Crossings for Wildlife to Reduce Roadkill Incidents

The Issue

As someone who is deeply saddened by the sight of roadkill, it is my personal mission to reduce these tragic incidents. Every time I drive past a deceased animal - be it a fox, badger, deer, bird, dog, cat or squirrel - my heart breaks. These animals are victims of our fast-paced needs and evolution. We have a duty to protect all wildlife.

The solution I propose involves the construction of tunnels with reinforced plastic for animals to cross roads safely. These tunnels can be created using mole-like machines and service detectors for easy and safe installation. The goal is not just to provide safe crossings but also significantly decrease the thousands of road kills that occur daily.

Roadkill statistics are alarming; in the US alone an estimated 1 million vertebrates are run over each day (source: Humane Society). This doesn't only result in loss of life but also leaves many young animals orphaned.

The proposed tunnels should ideally be installed in areas where road kill incidents are highest or as near as possible if direct placement isn't feasible. Over time, we believe that animals will find and use these crossings safely.

This change could save countless lives and help maintain our precious ecosystems which depend on these creatures for balance. Please join me in urging local authorities to consider this innovative solution against unnecessary wildlife deaths on our roads by signing this petition today.
