Implement Transit Oriented Development at Hamilton Train Station

Implement Transit Oriented Development at Hamilton Train Station
The Issue
As a local individual, I often pass by the Hamilton Train Station, a hallmark of exemplary commuter rail service in the United States. Despite rarely using it, I can see the potential of this location, currently serving primarily as a park-and-ride facility with overflow surface lots. Unfortunately, these expanses remain often vacant and are periodically being overtaken by weeds. This underutilization points to an uncapitalized opportunity, especially considering that Hamilton, NJ is an ever-evolving community filled with potential.
With thousands of daily NJ Transit (Northern New Jersey) commuters, Hamilton Station can certainly benefit from the implementation of Transit Oriented Development (TOD), a growing concept in urban planning today. TOD typically involves the construction of residential or commercial areas in close proximity to public transports to maximize accessibility and encourage public transport use over private cars. This prospective adjustment does not just have implications for the station’s functionality, but also greatly promotes the quality of life and convenience for the residents of this vibrant township.
Therefore, I call upon the local planning authorities and NJ Transit to transform these underused surface lots into residential apartments or a park. This will not only reclaim and positively utilize the choked space, but also provide either more housing opportunities or a recreational space for the community, fulfilling the needs of the burgeoning population. This proposed plan seeks to maintain the parking garage for station parking and resident parking should apartments be built.
Let's strive to keep Hamilton Township, NJ a wonderful place to live, work, and commute from. Sign this petition to urge our officials to consider this progressive step.
