Thanks to everyone who signed the petition. It was passed to the district coulcilor who persued the issue with the relevent South Gloucester Council departments. After much chasing, the response Cllr Williams received was essentially that 'we know people speed down Over Lane, but there have been only 3 minor accidents since 2019, and we arent going to do anyting. If residents are concerned about speeding contact the poilce. '
I post the full reponse below, but first slightly off topic, but of interest to Over Lane residents: The current plan for the 'improved' A38 means that it will not be possible to turn right from the A38 into Over lane at all! We will now have to go round the roundabout below the M5 and come back up the A38 and turn left into the lane! At peak times this will add about half an hour to the journy time of residents working in Thornbury or Yate when they return home in the evening. The project manager for the improvement advised that if you don't like it write to your Ward Coulcillor. I mention it just in case anyone thinks this isn't a great idea.
Stay safe, and please report any accidents you see to the police. You can use the link below

Verbatim response:
Hi Tony,
Fixed speed cameras can only currently be installed where there is evidence of poor compliance with the posted speed limit (85%ile more than 35mph in a 30mph speed limit) and there is a history of collisions along a road which have resulted in serious or fatal injury. From looking at the recent record of collisions it shows there have been 3 injury collisions since 2019, all of which resulted in injuries which were minor. Recent data (November 2023) shows that speeds on Over Lane are higher than we would like them to be. The lower number of collisions would mean that the use of fixed speed cameras are unlikely to be supported by Avon and Somerset Police.
In the interim we will share the speed data at the site with Avon and Somerset Police for their information and any action they may be able to take.
In addition to the above, if you/residents believe there is a speeding issue in your area, you can report this to the Police via:

I would advise contacting the police for further information on how they process reports of speeding.
Kind Regards
