Hi neighbors! We live right at the front of the neighborhood on N Shore Dr with young children. Ever since we moved in back in 2023, we've noticed a recurring problem with unsafe driving past our house, with cars frequently flying down the road. My family and I are constantly worried about the safety of our young children due to the frequent speeding. Cars often zoom past at speeds much faster than 20-25mph making it dangerous for anyone walking, biking, or playing outside.

This situation is increasingly stressful and I get nervous about simply taking my kids out for a walk or letting them enjoy their bicycles and scooters. We should not have to live in fear on our own street due to reckless driving behaviors.

Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reveal that speed is a factor in nearly one-third of all motor vehicle fatalities. Not only does speeding endanger the life of the speeder, but it also risks the lives of all neighborhood pedestrians. It’s crucial that we take preventive measures to protect our community members, particularly the children who enjoy our neighborhood.

Therefore, I am asking the City of Suffolk to take action by implementing traffic calming measures to reduce speeding and enhance safety for everyone. Possible solutions may include installing speed bumps, adding more traffic signage, and enhancing road markings to remind drivers to slow down.
